Former Washington Commanders defensive end Jacob Martin has signed a two-year, $11 million contract with the Tennessee Titans, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. The move reunites Martin with head coach Robert Saleh, whom he previously worked with during his time with the New York Jets. Martin joined Washington on a one-year contract last season and exceeded expectations. Originally projected to compete for a roster spot, he played extensively after injuries hit the Commanders’ defensive line. Over the season, Martin recorded 5.5 sacks and 45 pressures while participating in 62 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. Despite his strong performance, the Commanders opted not to match the Titans’ offer. Washington general manager Adam Peters has already reinforced the team’s defensive edge by acquiring Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson, and Charles Omenihu. Additional additions could arrive depending on the outcomes of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Martin’s departure reflects both the financial realities of free agency and the opportunities presented by reunions with familiar coaching staff. His familiarity with Saleh and solid performance tape make him a valuable rotational piece for Tennessee’s defensive front. Meanwhile, Washington looks to continue strengthening its edge with recent acquisitions.
