KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Logyn Greer delivered a balanced performance with 10 points, six rebounds, and four blocks as Colorado secured a 55-48 victory over Kansas on Thursday night to advance in the Big 12 women’s basketball tournament.

The sixth seeded Colorado Buffaloes improved to 21-10 and moved into the quarterfinal round with a disciplined defensive effort that limited Kansas to just 36 percent shooting from the field. The loss dropped the eleventh seeded Kansas Jayhawks to 19-13 as they now turn their attention to potential postseason invitations.

Greer shot 4 of 7 from the field and converted both of her three point attempts while anchoring Colorado’s interior defense. Desiree Wooten also scored 10 points and added four assists, helping guide the Buffaloes through a tightly contested game that emphasized defense and rebounding.

Colorado faced early challenges after committing seven team fouls in the opening quarter. Despite the early foul trouble, the Buffaloes adjusted defensively and slowed Kansas’ offensive rhythm. The turning point came during the second quarter when Colorado produced a 9-0 scoring run that shifted momentum and created separation on the scoreboard.

That run helped Colorado take a 26-18 lead into halftime and set the tone for the remainder of the game. The Buffaloes maintained control by forcing difficult shot attempts and limiting Kansas’ perimeter scoring opportunities.

Kansas struggled from long distance, making just 2 of 13 three point attempts for 15 percent. The Jayhawks finished 19 of 53 overall from the field and were unable to generate consistent offense outside of S’Mya Nichols, who led Kansas with 14 points. Nichols and Sania Copeland accounted for the team’s only made three point shots.

The latest timeline of the game featured Kansas attempting to close the gap late in the fourth quarter, but Colorado’s defense continued to protect the lead. Greer’s shot blocking presence altered several key possessions, and the Buffaloes controlled rebounds during critical moments to prevent second chance opportunities.

The impact of the result extends beyond the tournament bracket. Colorado enters the quarterfinal round with one of the conference’s most efficient defensive units, a factor that could become increasingly important in postseason play. The Buffaloes have now won 21 games this season while navigating a competitive Big 12 schedule that includes several nationally ranked programs.

Kansas now shifts its focus toward postseason possibilities outside the conference tournament. With 19 victories and competitive results in Big 12 play, the Jayhawks remain candidates for the Women’s National Invitation Tournament or other postseason opportunities as selection committees evaluate resumes across the country.

Colorado’s next challenge arrives quickly. The Buffaloes will face third seeded Baylor on Friday in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals. Baylor enters the matchup ranked No. 20 nationally and presents one of the conference’s most experienced tournament rosters.

The upcoming game carries significant postseason implications. A victory would move Colorado into the semifinals and strengthen its overall tournament resume, while Baylor will aim to assert its higher seed and national ranking.

The outlook for Colorado now centers on whether its defense can continue to dictate the pace against higher seeded opponents. If the Buffaloes maintain the same defensive intensity that limited Kansas to 48 points, they could remain a factor as the Big 12 tournament moves deeper into its final rounds.
