Colorado’s volleyball program (22–8, 12–6 Big 12) has secured one of the NCAA’s 33 at-large selections for the 2025 national tournament, marking the team’s 22nd overall appearance. The NCAA announced the field on Sunday, Nov. 30, confirming that the Buffaloes will enter the event as the fifth seed in the Texas quadrant of the bracket. Colorado is scheduled to open postseason play against American University—the Patriot League’s regular-season and tournament champion, holding a 24–4 (15–1 Patriot League) record—in a first-round match on Thursday, Dec. 4. The contest is set for 3 p.m. ET (1 p.m. MT) at Wilkinson Hall in Bloomington, Indiana. The Bloomington site will also host a matchup between fourth-seeded Indiana (23–7, 14–6 Big Ten) and Mid-American Conference tournament champion Toledo (23–10, 11–7 MAC). Winners from the two opening matches will advance to a second-round meeting on Friday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. ET (4 p.m. MT). Tickets for all sessions are available through the Indiana University athletics website.
This year’s tournament bid is Colorado’s first since 2022, continuing a long history of postseason competition. The Buffaloes have previously advanced to four regional championship (Sweet Sixteen) matches and hold a 13–21 (.382) all-time record in NCAA tournament play. Throughout program history, Colorado has earned 11 second-round appearances and 19 first-round showings, including two byes. The team’s most recent postseason outing—in 2022—ended with a four-set loss to Rice during the Baylor-hosted site in Waco, Texas.
For head coach Jesse Mahoney, now in his tenth season with the Buffaloes, this marks his fourth NCAA appearance at Colorado. Mahoney also guided the team to a regional run in 2016 and first-round appearances in 2018 and 2022. Prior to joining Colorado, he led Denver to NCAA tournament bids in 2014 and 2015.
