Colorado Women’s Basketball Defeats Arizona in Conference Home Opener.

The University of Colorado women’s basketball team earned a decisive 75–56 victory over Arizona on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the CU Events Center in Boulder. With the win, the Buffaloes improved to 10–4 overall and 1–1 in Big 12 play, while the Wildcats fell to 9–4 and 0–2 in conference action. Colorado set the tone early, jumping out to a strong first-quarter lead and controlling the pace of the game throughout. The Buffaloes led by as many as 12 points in the opening quarter and carried that momentum into halftime, holding Arizona to just 18 first-half points. Head coach JR Payne praised her team’s preparation and execution following the game. She highlighted Colorado’s defensive focus and ability to follow the game plan, noting that the team adjusted well to matchup changes and maintained consistent pressure on the Wildcats. Offensively, Colorado showcased balance, marking its eighth game of the season with four or more players scoring in double figures. Senior forward Anaëlle Dutat recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. She also contributed defensively with two steals and a block. Coach Payne emphasized the team’s unselfish play, pointing to strong ball movement and contributions from multiple players.
The Buffaloes opened the game with a quick scoring run, building a 7–0 lead before Arizona responded with a three-pointer. Colorado answered with efficient inside scoring and forced turnovers, ending the first quarter ahead 17–5. In the second quarter, the Buffaloes continued to extend their lead behind strong rebounding and second-chance points, entering halftime with a 32–18 advantage. Arizona attempted to close the gap in the third quarter, trimming the lead to single digits at one point. However, Colorado responded with timely baskets and free throws to regain control. A late three-pointer helped the Buffaloes finish the quarter ahead 51–36. In the final quarter, Colorado maintained its composure and widened the margin through consistent scoring at the free-throw line and solid defensive stops. The Buffaloes outpaced Arizona down the stretch, securing the 19-point win.
Along with Dutat, Logyn Greer led Colorado with 14 points, while Jade Masogayo added 13. Zyanna Walker chipped in 12 points, and Maeve McErlane recorded a season-high seven assists without committing a turnover. For Arizona, Michayla Perdue led all scorers with 22 points.
Colorado will remain at home for its next contest, hosting Cincinnati at the CU Events Center on Saturday, Jan. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT, with the game streaming on ESPN+.
