Columbus Crew Add Experienced MLS Defender Brooks Lennon on Free-Agent Deal.

The Columbus Crew have strengthened their back line by signing veteran defender Brooks Lennon as a free agent, the club announced Tuesday. Lennon, 28, joins Columbus after spending six seasons with Atlanta United and brings nearly a decade of MLS experience to the reigning Eastern Conference contender. The new agreement keeps him under contract through June 2027 and includes club options that could extend the deal through the 2028-29 season. A former U.S. youth international, Lennon has appeared in 257 MLS matches during his career with Atlanta United and Real Salt Lake. Across those appearances, he has recorded 12 goals and 42 assists while establishing himself as one of the league's most reliable and versatile wide defenders. Crew General Manager Issa Tall praised the acquisition, highlighting Lennon's experience and ability to contribute in multiple roles. "Brooks is a proven MLS player whose versatility and skill set are a great fit for our roster," Tall said. "His professionalism, work ethic, and ability to impact games in different ways will provide valuable depth and competition as we move through the remainder of the season."

Lennon expressed enthusiasm about joining Columbus and believes the club's style of play aligns well with his strengths. "I'm extremely excited to be joining the Crew," Lennon said. "It's an incredible organization with amazing facilities, and the way Columbus likes to play fits my style perfectly. I can't wait to get started and help bring wins to our fans." The Crew will resume MLS action following the FIFA Club World Cup break on July 22 when they host New York City FC. Lennon is expected to provide immediate depth and experience as Columbus continues its push for another postseason run.
