BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Cotie McMahon led the No. 13 Mississippi Rebels to a 71-45 victory over Auburn on Monday at Legacy Arena. McMahon scored 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line while grabbing seven rebounds, helping Ole Miss (19-4, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) extend their winning streak to three games and five wins in their last six contests. Sira Thienou contributed 14 points and eight rebounds, while Christeen Iwuala recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Latasha Lattimore exited the game in the fourth quarter with an apparent ankle injury after scoring six points, leaving her just one point shy of 1,000 for her career. For Auburn (13-10), Harissoum Coulibaly led the Tigers with 11 points. Mya Petticord opened the game with two baskets in a 10-4 run, but Ole Miss responded with an 18-0 run, including three baskets and four free throws from McMahon, to claim a 12-point lead after the first quarter. Auburn struggled offensively, missing their last 10 shots and both free throws in the final 6:58 of the opening quarter. The Tigers ended a 6:58 scoring drought with Khady Leye’s layup early in the second quarter, but Ole Miss still took a 35-19 lead into halftime.
McMahon had 15 points by the break, while Auburn shot just 28.6% and scored nine points in the final 13:02 of the half. In the third quarter, McMahon added five points to reach 20 for the third consecutive game, giving Ole Miss a 50-31 advantage. Auburn, which entered the game averaging an SEC-low 54 points per game, missed its first 11 three-point attempts before Kaitlyn Duhon made a basket with 5:47 remaining. Up next, Auburn travels to Florida on Thursday, while Ole Miss faces No. 21 Alabama on Thursday.
