Cubs Sign Reliever Hunter Harvey to One-Year Deal.

The Chicago Cubs have reached an agreement with free-agent relief pitcher Hunter Harvey on a one-year contract, according to sources confirmed by ESPN. The deal is reportedly worth $6 million. Harvey, who is 31 years old, has struggled with injuries over the course of his career. During the 2025 season with the Kansas City Royals, he was limited to just 12 appearances due to multiple injuries, including a teres major strain in April and an adductor strain in August. Despite the limited playing time, Harvey recorded 11 strikeouts over 10.2 innings pitched. When healthy, Harvey is known for his high-velocity fastball, which adds power to a Cubs bullpen that has lacked elite speed. Across seven major league seasons, he has totaled 201 strikeouts in 185 innings. His MLB career includes stints with the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Nationals, and Kansas City Royals. Harvey was originally selected in the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft by Baltimore.

The Cubs have focused heavily on rebuilding their bullpen this offseason after losing several relievers to free agency. In addition to Harvey, Chicago has signed Phil Maton, Hoby Milner, and Jacob Webb in an effort to strengthen its relief pitching depth.
