The Denver Summit earned the first victory in franchise history with a 2–0 win over Gotham FC on Wednesday night. Goals from Melissa Kössler and Natasha Flint secured the milestone result for the expansion side. Kössler opened the scoring in the 57th minute after receiving a well-placed pass from Yuna McCormack. She created space with a sharp run and finished with a precise shot into the left side of the net. Denver doubled its lead in the 72nd minute when Flint capitalized on a turnover, stripping the ball from Gotham goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger and scoring. Gotham struggled offensively, managing just one shot on target in the first half while playing at home in New Jersey. Around the league, several other matches took place. The Orlando Pride defeated the Chicago Stars 3–0, while the Seattle Reign also secured a 3–0 win against the Kansas City Current in Spokane, Washington. The San Diego Wave beat the Portland Thorns 3–1, and the Utah Royals and Washington Spirit played to a 1–1 draw. In Washington’s match, Trinity Rodman made league history by becoming the youngest player to reach 100 regular-season appearances at age 23. She surpassed the previous record held by Sam Kerr, who reached the milestone at 25. Despite an early goal from Rebeca Bernal, Washington conceded a late equalizer to Utah’s Mina Tanaka. Seattle’s strong performance included a goal from Angharad James-Turner in her first start. The Reign dominated early play and added goals from Brittany Ratcliffe and Maddie Mercado, assisted by Sofia Huerta. Kansas City, known for its strong defense last season, has already conceded six goals in three matches this year.
Portland suffered its first loss of the season against San Diego. After Dudinha scored early for the Wave, Pietra Tordin equalized for the Thorns. However, San Diego regained control with goals from Lia Godfrey and Melanie Barcenas. Meanwhile, Orlando continued its strong form with a three-goal first half against Chicago. Barbara Banda scored her third goal in as many games, followed by strikes from Jacqueline Ovalle and Hannah Anderson, marking Anderson’s first professional goal.
