Denver Summit FC, Denver’s rising National Women’s Soccer League franchise, is set to make history with its first-ever home match at Empower Field at Mile High. The inaugural contest will take place on Saturday, March 28, at 12 p.m. MT, marking a major milestone for women’s professional sports in Colorado. According to club president Jen Millet, the venue selection was guided by two primary goals: finding a location with championship pedigree and ensuring the capacity could match the overwhelming fan enthusiasm. “When we set about planning for this match, we really wanted a venue that could accommodate two main criteria: One, it needed to have championship football DNA, and we’ve got that here at Empower Field,” Millet explained. “The second was, it needed to be large enough to match the tremendous groundswell of support we’ve received from the Denver fan community and the business community.” Tickets for the event, billed as “The Kickoff,” will go on sale Nov. 12 through the Summit FC website. Since its announcement in January, Denver’s first women’s professional sports franchise has generated unprecedented excitement. The club has already set a new NWSL expansion record, securing 15,000 season ticket deposits for the 14,500-seat stadium under construction at Santa Fe Yards, projected to open in 2028. Until then, the team will play its home games at a temporary stadium in Centennial, which began construction in June.
The organization’s rapid rise has been fueled by a dynamic marketing campaign and a star-studded ownership group featuring investment firms, top business leaders, and Colorado sports icons. Summit FC has also begun shaping its inaugural roster, signing forward Ally Watt, a Colorado native, midfielder Lourdes Bosch, and Spanish international Nahikari García. “Being here at Empower Field is a bold step for Denver Summit FC, and it’s a huge day for sports in our city,” said controlling owner Rob Cohen. “I want to thank the City of Denver and especially our fans for believing in the vision that we created around this team. I can’t wait to have March 28, 2026, find its proper place in the sports history of this incredible sports city.”
