On Wednesday, May 29, 2025, the Milwaukee Brewers clinched a dramatic 6–5 extra-innings victory over the Boston Red Sox at American Family Field, completing their first series sweep of the season. Rookie infielder Caleb Durbin played the hero, driving in the winning run with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning. Durbin’s clutch performance, which included two hits and three RBIs, marked the second straight walk-off win for Milwaukee. The Brewers trailed multiple times in the game, but a sixth-inning two-run double by Durbin gave them their first lead. The Red Sox fought back, tying the game in the seventh on a solo home run by Wilyer Abreu—his thirteenth of the season—off reliever Nick Mears. Abreu’s homer came after Mears was sent out for a second inning of work, a move that manager Pat Murphy had hoped to avoid due to the reliever's heavy usage throughout the month. Boston reclaimed the lead in the top of the 10th when Nick Sogard scored off Milwaukee’s Tyler Alexander. With Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman already used in the ninth, Boston manager Alex Cora turned to Justin Slaten for the final frame. Slaten immediately gave up a single to Sal Frelick, and a wild throw to home plate by Red Sox infielder Kristian Campbell allowed the automatic runner, Daz Cameron, to score and tie the game. That miscue set up Durbin’s decisive plate appearance, where he lifted a fly ball deep enough to bring Frelick home and end the contest.

The Red Sox opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run by Ceddane Rafaela, his third of the year. Milwaukee’s Jake Bauers responded with a solo shot of his own in the third and later walked and scored again in the fifth. Rafael Devers contributed a two-run single for Boston in the fourth inning, part of a three-run effort against Brewers starter Freddy Peralta. Peralta threw 108 pitches across five innings, allowing six hits, three runs, and three walks while striking out six. Notably, 57 of those pitches came in the first two innings. Brayan Bello, the Red Sox starter, pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two walks with two strikeouts.

The win marked the Brewers’ second straight extra-inning triumph, following Christian Yelich’s 10th-inning grand slam the night before. With momentum building and young players like Durbin stepping up, Milwaukee appears poised to make a push as the season heats up.
