Baltimore, MD — Rookie Dylan Beavers continued his clutch streak, delivering the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning to lift the Baltimore Orioles over the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 on Thursday afternoon. The win completed a three-game sweep at Camden Yards and extended the Pirates’ losing streak to six games. The pivotal moment came in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jackson Holliday led off with a single against Pirates reliever Colin Holderman. Holliday then swiped his 16th base of the season to move into scoring position. After Gunnar Henderson was intentionally walked and Holderman struck out Emmanuel Rivera, lefty Evan Sisk entered the game. Beavers worked the count full and lined a single into right field to score Holliday, giving the Orioles a 3-2 lead. This marked the second consecutive game in which Beavers drove in the winning run. On Wednesday, his tenth-inning single secured a 2-1 victory. “It’s all about staying calm and trusting your approach,” Beavers said postgame. “These are the moments you dream of as a kid.” The Pirates took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jared Triolo singled and later scored on a two-out hit by Nick Gonzales. The Orioles answered immediately, as Jeremiah Jackson singled, Henderson doubled for a career-high 31st time, and Rivera drove in the tying run with a groundout. Baltimore pulled ahead 2-1 in the second inning. Colton Cowser drew a leadoff walk, stole his 10th base, and scored on a two-out RBI single by Coby Mayo. However, Pittsburgh evened the score in the third inning with a 409-foot solo home run to left field by Alexander Canario, his sixth of the year.
Orioles starter Cade Povich gave a solid performance, allowing two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. Rookie reliever Grant Wolfram earned the win (3-0) with a scoreless seventh, and Keegan Akin secured his fifth save with a perfect ninth. The game ended dramatically when catcher Alex Jackson threw out National League stolen base leader Oneil Cruz attempting to steal second. The Orioles, now 69-77, have won three straight games and eight of their last nine. Baltimore has also made franchise history by recording four walk-off wins within a five-game stretch, a feat last accomplished in June 1954. Baltimore will begin a weekend series in Toronto on Friday, sending left-hander Trevor Rogers (8-2, 1.51 ERA) to the mound against Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt (11-8, 3.97 ERA). The Pirates travel to Washington to face the Nationals. Neither team has announced a starting pitcher.
