CINCINNATI — Landen Roupp delivered an outstanding performance, allowing just one hit over six innings as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Cincinnati Reds 3–0 on Thursday.
Roupp (3–1) kept Cincinnati hitless until the sixth inning, when P.J. Higgins singled to break up the no-hit bid. Despite hitting TJ Friedl with a pitch later in the inning, Roupp escaped the situation as Matt McLain struck out and Elly De La Cruz grounded into a double play. Roupp finished his outing with two walks and six strikeouts across 87 pitches. The Giants’ bullpen preserved the shutout, with Ryan Walker, Keaton Winn, and Erik Miller combining for three scoreless innings. Miller struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning to earn his first career save. San Francisco broke the scoreless tie in the seventh inning. Luis Arraez reached base on an error by De La Cruz and later scored on a two-out double by Matt Chapman. Jung Hoo Lee followed with an RBI single, and Casey Schmitt added another run with a single, capping a three-run inning. Reds rookie Chase Burns was effective early, allowing just two hits and one walk over six innings while striking out four. He faced the minimum number of batters before exiting after 87 pitches.
Tensions rose later in the game when Connor Phillips was ejected for intentionally hitting Willy Adames with a pitch, following an earlier hit-by-pitch involving Spencer Steer. The victory ended a four-game losing streak for the Giants and prevented a series sweep. Cincinnati, which had hit home runs in seven consecutive games prior to this matchup, was unable to generate offense. Looking ahead, the Giants will face the Washington Nationals, with Logan Webb scheduled to start. Meanwhile, the Reds will take on the Minnesota Twins, sending Brandon Williamson to the mound.
