Oklahoma City — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander poured in 46 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Utah Jazz 129–125 in overtime Wednesday night, snapping a brief two-game losing streak. Gilgeous-Alexander forced overtime by calmly knocking down a jumper near the free-throw line at the end of regulation. He then took control in the extra period, scoring nine of Oklahoma City’s points. The reigning NBA MVP extended his streak of 20-point performances to 109 games, the second-longest such run in league history.
Chet Holmgren contributed 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Jalen Williams finished with 17 points. Ajay Mitchell added 16 points for the defending champion Thunder. After opening the season with a dominant 24–1 record, Oklahoma City had struggled recently, losing six of its previous 12 games. A lopsided loss to Charlotte on Tuesday marked the team’s second straight defeat. However, the Thunder avoided their first three-game regular-season losing streak since April 2024. Utah was led by Lauri Markkanen, who recorded 29 points and 13 rebounds. Keyonte George added 25 points and 11 assists, and Jusuf Nurkic posted a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. The loss extended the Jazz’s skid to five games. Oklahoma City built a 20-point lead in the second quarter, but Utah cut the deficit to five by halftime. The Jazz surged early in the second half, taking the lead on a Nurkic layup. Utah later went ahead by eight with just over five minutes remaining, but the Thunder rallied down the stretch.
Markkanen’s reverse putback at the buzzer appeared to seal the game for Utah, but after review confirmed the basket, Gilgeous-Alexander responded with a clutch shot to force overtime and keep Oklahoma City alive. The Jazz will host Dallas on Thursday night, while the Thunder travel to Memphis for a Friday matchup.
