Allisha Gray erupted for 24 points, including 16 in the second half, while Angel Reese delivered a standout debut with a double-double as the Atlanta Dream stormed back to edge the Minnesota Lynx 91-90 on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.
Reese finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds after joining Atlanta in an offseason trade with Chicago. The star forward also reached a historic milestone, recording her 50th career double-double in just 65 games — the fastest pace in WNBA history. Minnesota rookie Olivia Miles impressed in her professional debut, posting 21 points, eight assists, two steals, and two blocks after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2026 WNBA Draft. The Lynx were without star forward Napheesa Collier, who continues recovering from offseason surgery on both ankles. The five-time All-Star is expected to return to basketball activities in early June.
Atlanta completed its comeback in the final seconds. Jordin Canada drove through the lane for a key basket before Te-Hina Paopao knocked down a pull-up jumper with 12 seconds remaining to give the Dream their first lead of the game at 91-90. The Dream then sealed the win on the defensive end as Gray and Reese each came up with critical blocks in the closing moments. Naz Hillmon and Rhyne Howard each added 15 points for Atlanta, while Canada contributed 12. Kayla McBride led Minnesota with 18 points, Courtney Williams added 14, and rookie center Emma Cechova chipped in 12 points.
The Lynx appeared in control during the third quarter before Atlanta mounted a furious rally. Minnesota missed nine straight field-goal attempts as the Dream used an 18-4 run to cut the deficit to one point late in the period. Cechova answered with a layup and Miles followed with a 3-pointer to steady the Lynx heading into the fourth. Atlanta opens a two-game road stretch Tuesday in Dallas, while Minnesota travels to Phoenix for its next matchup.
