The Atlanta Falcons do not anticipate needing a quarterback in the near future, as Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix Jr. are set to lead the team in the short and long term. Therefore, the Falcons are likely to watch from the sidelines next spring as Shedeur Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Fame cornerback and former Atlanta star Deion Sanders, enters the professional football scene.
However, as Atlanta observes closely, it might witness the emergence of a player who bears resemblance to one of its esteemed franchise legends - quarterback Michael Vick, a three-time Pro Bowler during his six-year tenure with the team. When questioned about his likeness to either Vick or Tom Brady, Shedeur Sanders expressed to Complex Sports that he sees himself as embodying traits from both iconic quarterbacks.
"I'm a mixture," Shedeur Sanders said. "I'm able to stay in the pocket and want to deliver the ball each and every play like Brady but be able to extend plays and if it's not there, take it like Vick."
According to the New York Post, the Atlanta Falcons were among the teams that Deion Sanders reportedly considered for his sons, Shedeur and safety Shilo. Other teams on the list included the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, and Baltimore Ravens. Shedeur is highly regarded as a first-round prospect by many experts, including Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated. Throughout his 14-year career in the NFL, Deion Sanders dedicated five years to the Falcons, receiving three All-Pro honors. He developed a strong attachment to Atlanta and firmly believes that his sons, particularly Shilo rather than Shedeur, should reside in a city that closely resembles it, if not the actual metropolis itself.
Deion Sanders expressed on the Million Dollar Worth of Game podcast that there were specific cities that were a perfect match for him. Atlanta, in particular, was a perfect fit. He emphasized his desire for his children to experience the same. He sought the right fit for them, considering various factors. One significant aspect was the ethnicity of the city, as it was the first time he witnessed black individuals in positions of authority, which left a profound impact on him.
"It was real in Atlanta. I had never seen anything like that in my life."
Prior to the Falcons choosing Penix, Shedeur Sanders was a prominent figure. However, his presence is now fading into obscurity. Nevertheless, once he enters the NFL, he might still exhibit a hint of Atlanta in his playing style.
