Jackson State secures its inaugural Celebration Bowl victory, defeating South Carolina State with a score of 28-7.

Jacobian Morgan successfully connected on two touchdown passes to Joanes Fortilien, while Irv Mulligan contributed with two short touchdown runs, leading Jackson State to a 28-7 victory over South Carolina State on Saturday in the Celebration Bowl, which serves as the national championship for HBCUs. The Tigers, champions of the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a record of 12-2, outperformed the Bulldogs of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, who finished at 9-3, with a total yardage of 383 to 211, allowing only 59 yards through the first three quarters. This victory marked Jackson State's first Celebration Bowl win in their third appearance within four years.


Morgan completed 15 of 21 passes for 233 yards, though he did throw one interception. Isaiah Spencer recorded 123 receiving yards. For the Bulldogs, Eric Phoenix, who did not play in the third quarter, completed 13 of 20 passes for 167 yards, making him the season's passing leader for the program with a total of 2,628 yards. He also scored South Carolina State's sole touchdown.
