The Seattle Seahawks staged one of the most dramatic comebacks of the 2025 NFL season, overcoming a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Rams 38–37 in overtime on Thursday night. The victory gave Seattle sole possession of first place in the NFC West and secured a playoff berth. Head coach Mike Macdonald made a bold decision in overtime by refusing to play for a tie. After quarterback Sam Darnold connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a touchdown, Macdonald opted for a two-point conversion to end the game. Darnold delivered, finding tight end Eric Saubert wide open to seal the win.
Seattle’s comeback was fueled by a series of momentum-shifting plays in the fourth quarter. Rashid Shaheed ignited the rally with a 58-yard punt return touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion. Later, a controversial but decisive play tied the game when a deflected pass ruled as a backward throw was recovered in the end zone by running back Zach Charbonnet. Despite the loss, the Rams’ offense was dominant for much of the night.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 457 yards and three touchdowns, while wide receiver Puka Nacua recorded 12 catches for 225 yards and two scores. However, Los Angeles struggled in the red zone and failed to capitalize late, punting four times and missing a field goal in the final stages of regulation. Darnold finished with 270 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, rebounding from earlier mistakes with clutch performances late in the game. Smith-Njigba also had a historic night, surpassing the Seahawks’ single-season reception record.
With the win, Seattle improved to 12–3 and positioned itself for a potential top seed in the NFC. The Rams fell to 11–4 and now face a difficult path toward securing a home playoff game.
