EAST LANSING, Mich. — Jaloni Cambridge exploded for 33 points, leading No. 13 Ohio State to a commanding 87-68 victory over No. 15 Michigan State on Sunday, while the Buckeyes set a program record with 18 made 3-pointers in the regular-season finale.
Cambridge connected on 12 of 24 shots from the field and 7 of 12 from beyond the arc, marking her highest single-game three-point total of the season. Chance Gray added 21 points, hitting 7 of 11 from deep, as Ohio State (24-6, 13-5 Big Ten) showcased one of the most efficient perimeter attacks in program history. Elsa Lemilla recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Kennedy Cambridge contributed 10 points.
The Buckeyes’ dominance was highlighted by a 15-0 second-quarter run that expanded the lead to 38-11, effectively putting the game out of reach. Ohio State went into halftime ahead 49-26 and maintained control throughout the second half, forcing Michigan State into multiple turnovers and converting them into fast-break points.
Michigan State (22-7, 11-7) was led by Grace VanSlooten’s 17 points, with Rashunda Jones adding 16 and Ines Sotelo scoring 11. Despite the Spartans’ efforts, they could not match Ohio State’s shooting efficiency, particularly from three-point range, where the Buckeyes excelled at 50 percent on the day.
This win improves Ohio State’s outlook heading into the Big Ten Tournament, where they will enter as the No. 5 seed and face a Thursday matchup in Indianapolis. The Buckeyes’ sharpshooting and depth provide a strong foundation to advance deep into the tournament.
Michigan State, seeded seventh, will also play Thursday and must address defensive gaps and rebounding disparities if they hope to extend their season. Historically, Ohio State has leveraged strong perimeter shooting in tournament play, suggesting Cambridge and Gray’s performances could be pivotal in their postseason success.
The game underscores Ohio State’s emergence as one of the Big Ten’s most formidable offensive teams and sets the stage for a highly competitive conference tournament.
