The Colorado State Rams have landed a promising linebacker for their 2026 football recruiting class with the commitment of John McClellan from Rancho Cotate High School in California. McClellan, a 6-foot-3, 214-pound athlete, announced his decision on June 10, 2025, via social media platform X. During his junior season in 2024, McClellan recorded an impressive 157 tackles, including 15 tackles-for-loss and 5.5 sacks, while also scoring two touchdowns. His performance on the field reflects a relentless sideline-to-sideline playing style and a competitive spirit, attributes McClellan emphasized in his statement about joining the Rams.
"I want to better myself and really be a big factor in (CSU’s) defense,"
McClellan told the Coloradoan. His commitment adds significant depth to the Rams’ defense as the program continues its recent recruiting surge. Ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, McClellan had multiple offers, including from Utah State, UNLV, and Sacramento State, before choosing Colorado State. His decision comes amid a wave of commitments, with the Rams securing 11 recruits in just a few days. McClellan’s signing signals an exciting future for Colorado State’s defense as they look to build a competitive roster for the coming seasons.
