Colorado State men’s basketball will be without one of its top players for the near future, as sophomore forward Kyle Jorgensen is expected to miss multiple games due to injury. The program has listed Jorgensen as “week to week,” and he did not play in CSU’s home matchup against Nevada on Dec. 30. Jorgensen was injured early in the Rams’ Dec. 20 road game against Utah State, exiting just four minutes into the contest. He required assistance from teammates to reach the locker room and later returned to the bench on crutches with ice wrapped around his left leg. Before the injury, the 6-foot-9 forward led Colorado State in scoring, averaging 15.2 points per game. Following the Utah State game, his average dropped to 13.8 points per contest. Jorgensen has been highly efficient this season, shooting 64 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the three-point arc, with a season-high performance of 29 points. CSU has also been dealing with the absence of Rashaan Mbemba, who has appeared in only two games this season and has missed the last six due to injury. Mbemba is listed as “questionable” ahead of the Nevada game, marking an improvement from his previous status when he was ruled out entirely. While he is making progress toward a return, no definitive timetable has been announced.
If both Jorgensen and Mbemba remain sidelined, head coach Ali Farokhmanesh will need to adjust his lineup. Nikola Djapa could step in at center, while Augustinas Kiudulas and Carey Booth are additional options who could shift from power forward to the center position. The Rams may also experiment with smaller lineups to compensate for the lack of depth in the frontcourt.
