LAWRENCE, Kan. — Darryn Peterson poured in a game-high 32 points and delivered three clutch free throws in the closing seconds of regulation as No. 22 Kansas mounted a dramatic comeback to defeat TCU 104–100 in overtime Tuesday night. The Jayhawks (11–4, 1–1 Big 12) trailed by as many as 16 points midway through the second half but steadily chipped away at the deficit. Kansas cut the lead to three with 34 seconds remaining, though an empty possession followed, allowing TCU’s Liutauras Lelevicius to knock down two free throws. Flory Bidunga answered with a tip-in to bring Kansas within three again with just over six seconds left. After forcing a turnover on TCU’s inbound pass, Kansas found Peterson beyond the three-point line, where he was fouled. Peterson calmly converted all three free throws to send the game into overtime. Kansas controlled the extra period from start to finish, relying on efficient free-throw shooting to secure the victory. The Jayhawks made 9 of 11 free throws in overtime, while TCU connected on just two of four. Melvin Council Jr. scored nine of his 18 points during the overtime period to help seal the win. Lelevicius led TCU (11–4, 1–1) with a career-best 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including five three-pointers. The performance marked a significant increase from his season averages entering the game. David Punch added 20 points and nine rebounds, recording his 10th straight double-digit scoring outing.
For Kansas, Tre White contributed 22 points, while Bidunga finished with 16.
The Jayhawks will travel to face West Virginia on Saturday. TCU returns home to host Arizona.
