San Diego State built a dominant second half to defeat Nevada 71-57 on Saturday, improving the Aztecs’ Mountain West record while leaving the Wolf Pack searching for answers.
The Aztecs (20-4, 11-3 Mountain West) were led by Reese Dixon-Waters, who scored 20 points on efficient 7 of 14 shooting, and BJ Davis, who added 14 points while dishing out five assists. Miles Heide contributed seven rebounds in just 17 minutes, helping San Diego State control the boards early. The Aztecs shot 43 percent from the field and converted 32 percent of their three point attempts, combining accuracy and defensive pressure to keep Nevada in check.
Nevada (14-9, 7-7 Mountain West) was paced by Elijah Price with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Vaughn Weems added 16 points. Corey Camper Jr. contributed 16 points with four three-pointers, but the Wolf Pack struggled with turnovers and shooting inconsistency. The team made only 33 percent of their field goals and 25 percent of three pointers, while committing 14 turnovers that led to 17 points for San Diego State.
The game remained competitive in the first half, with Nevada trailing by only six at the break. However, San Diego State opened the second half with a 12-4 run, establishing separation that the Wolf Pack could not overcome. Defensive adjustments and balanced scoring allowed the Aztecs to maintain control throughout the second 20 minutes.
This victory marks San Diego State’s fourth consecutive win and strengthens their positioning for a top Mountain West seed in the conference tournament. Nevada will look to bounce back as they enter a stretch of road games against conference leaders.
Up next, San Diego State hosts UNLV on Wednesday, while Nevada travels to Colorado State on the same night. Both teams aim to refine strategies and solidify postseason positioning.
