FORT WORTH — No. 11 TCU secured back to back outright Big 12 regular season championships Sunday with a 65-53 win over No. 18 Baylor, extending the Horned Frogs’ home winning streak to 42 games and reinforcing their postseason outlook.
TCU improved to 27-4 overall and 15-3 in Big 12 play, finishing alone atop the conference standings for the second consecutive year. Baylor dropped to 24-7 and 13-5, missing an opportunity to share the regular season crown for the second straight season after facing TCU in the finale a year ago.
Marta Suarez led the Horned Frogs with 21 points and 11 rebounds, delivering one of her most efficient performances of the season. She converted 4 of 5 from 3 point range and punctuated a decisive third quarter stretch with a raised arm after connecting from deep to extend the lead to 40-21.
Olivia Miles added 19 points, continuing a standout season that has included multiple high scoring performances against conference rivals. Taylor Bigby contributed 12 points, and TCU’s balanced scoring and defensive discipline limited Baylor to its lowest point total of the season.
Baylor’s only lead came at 2-0 early in the first quarter. Taliah Scott scored 17 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, as the Bears attempted a late push. However, TCU’s defensive execution and rebounding margin prevented sustained momentum.
The victory carries historical context. Before coach Mark Campbell arrived prior to the 2023-24 season, TCU finished 1-17 in Big 12 play. The program had never won a conference title or advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 until last season. Under Campbell’s leadership, the
Horned Frogs have now captured consecutive outright regular season championships and won five straight games against Baylor after previously dropping 37 consecutive meetings in the series dating back to 1991.
The 42 game home win streak matches Texas for the longest active streak nationally entering postseason play. According to the NCAA selection committee’s latest top 16 reveal, both programs are positioned to host first and second round NCAA Tournament games, strengthening TCU’s national profile.
From a performance perspective, TCU’s perimeter efficiency and rebounding control defined the outcome. The Horned Frogs limited Baylor’s transition opportunities and dictated pace through disciplined half court offense.
The impact of Sunday’s result reinforces TCU’s status as a top tier contender entering March. Securing the outright title eliminates any shared championship narrative and solidifies résumé strength ahead of Selection Sunday.
Next steps: The Big 12 Tournament begins in Kansas City this week. Both TCU and Baylor earned double byes and will open play in Friday’s quarterfinal round, with conference tournament seeding and NCAA Tournament positioning now at stake.
