No. 20 Texas Tech Women Close Regular Season with 58-51 Win Over Arizona State Behind Jalynn Bristow

LUBBOCK — No. 20 Texas Tech closed the regular season with a 58-51 victory over Arizona State on Sunday, using a decisive third quarter run to secure its 25th win and strengthen its Big 12 Tournament outlook.

Jalynn Bristow led the Red Raiders with 18 points, while Jada Malone and Denae Fritz added 11 points each. Texas Tech finished the regular season 25-6 overall and 12-6 in Big 12 play, earning the No. 5 seed in the upcoming conference tournament in Kansas City.

The game featured six lead changes and remained tight into halftime, with Arizona State holding a 27-25 advantage at the break. Texas Tech shifted momentum late in the third quarter with a 12-0 run over the final 4:02 of the period, turning a narrow contest into a 47-36 lead entering the fourth. That stretch ultimately proved decisive.

Arizona State responded by outscoring Texas Tech 15-11 in the final quarter but could not fully erase the deficit. The Sun Devils concluded the regular season at 22-9 overall and 9-9 in conference play, securing the No. 10 seed in the Big 12 Tournament.

Texas Tech shot 43 percent from the field, converting 18 of 42 attempts, and limited Arizona State’s offensive rhythm during critical stretches. Bristow’s scoring efficiency and ability to create space in the half court anchored the Red Raiders’ offensive execution.

Gabby Elliott led Arizona State with 15 points, while Helosia Carrera contributed 10 points on a perfect 5 of 5 shooting performance. Despite efficient interior scoring, the Sun Devils were unable to match Texas Tech’s timely perimeter defense and third quarter composure.

From a broader impact perspective, Texas Tech’s late season consistency positions the program as a potential dark horse in the Big 12 bracket. The Red Raiders have demonstrated defensive discipline and balanced scoring, both of which translate effectively to tournament settings where possessions are magnified.

Historically, teams entering conference tournaments on multi game win streaks often outperform seeding expectations. Texas Tech’s ability to generate separation with extended runs, such as Sunday’s 12-0 surge, provides a blueprint for postseason play.

For Arizona State, improving late game shot creation and limiting scoring droughts will be focal points entering tournament action. The Sun Devils’ .500 conference record reflects competitiveness in a deep league, but closing efficiency remains a determining factor.

Next steps: Texas Tech opens Big 12 Tournament play Thursday as the No. 5 seed. Arizona State begins Wednesday as the No. 10 seed, seeking to build momentum in the opening round as postseason competition intensifies.
