Okananwa Powers No. 22 Maryland Past No. 12 Michigan State, 86–70.

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Behind a standout performance from Oluchi Okananwa, the No. 22 Maryland women’s basketball team earned an impressive 86–70 road victory over No. 12 Michigan State on Wednesday night. Okananwa finished with 23 points as the Terrapins took control after halftime and never looked back. Maryland entered the break with a 43–33 lead and widened the gap during a dominant third quarter. Okananwa was efficient offensively, making 8 of her 13 shots while also contributing four rebounds, five assists, and a steal. As a team, the Terrapins shot 49 percent from the field. Yarden Garzon chipped in 16 points and five assists, while Kyndal Walker added 14 points. Saylor Poffenbarger recorded a strong all-around performance with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Maryland’s defensive pressure forced 20 turnovers, converting those into 23 points. Michigan State struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 4 of 15 three-point attempts. The Terrapins extended their lead early in the fourth quarter when Poffenbarger knocked down a three-pointer to make it 72–55. Okananwa followed with seven consecutive points, including a deep three and a layup, pushing the advantage to 84–68 with less than two minutes remaining. Michigan State was unable to cut the deficit to single digits in the final quarter.


Grace VanSlooten paced the Spartans with 19 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. Kennedy Blair contributed 15 points and seven assists, and Jalyn Brown added 13 points. Despite the loss, Michigan State remains near the top of the Big Ten standings. Michigan State will travel to Penn State on Saturday, while Maryland heads to Nebraska for its next conference matchup.
