New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing legal charges following an alleged incident on December 2, 2025. According to reports, Diggs has been charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault. A motion hearing was held on December 30 at the Dedham District Court in Massachusetts, where a judge is considering whether to keep court documents sealed ahead of Diggs’ arraignment scheduled for January 23, which is the day before the AFC Championship Game. In response to the allegations, the Patriots released a statement expressing support for Diggs. “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary,” the team said. They added that, due to the ongoing legal proceedings, they would not make further comments. Diggs’ attorney, David Meier, stated that the claims are “unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated—because they did not occur. The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee's satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law”.
Additionally, another member of Diggs’ legal team, Michael R. DiStefano, expressed concern that public disclosure of court details could lead to “substantial risk of widespread publicity” that might affect the case. Diggs’ attorneys are also reportedly working toward a monetary resolution related to the matter. The NFL acknowledged awareness of the situation, stating, “We have no further comment at this time"
On the field, Diggs, 32, has led the Patriots with 82 receptions for 970 yards and four touchdowns this season. The Patriots, currently 13-3, will play their final regular-season game against the Miami Dolphins before entering the AFC playoffs.
