The 2025 NFL preseason kicked off in full swing with the Philadelphia Eagles facing the Cincinnati Bengals in the opener for both squads. While QB1 Jalen Hurts sat out, the Eagles rolled with Tanner McKee under center — and he delivered. Completing 20 of 25 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns, McKee not only showcased his passing accuracy but also proved he could execute the signature “tush push” for a rushing score. Among his top targets, Darius Cooper shined by translating his strong training camp into game production, recording six receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown. Rookie Ainias Smith added to the offensive fireworks by hauling in a pass from McKee and making his mark on special teams with a kick return. On the other sideline, Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow took the field for two drives and looked in midseason form. He completed nine of ten passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns — both to his go-to receiver, Ja’Marr Chase. Chase reaffirmed his dominance with four receptions for 77 yards, giving fans a glimpse of the explosive connection that could define Cincinnati’s offense in 2025. However, once the Bengals’ starters exited, depth issues became apparent. The backup defense struggled to contain McKee and the Eagles’ second-unit offense. Penalties, special teams breakdowns — including a surrendered kick return — and missed assignments hindered Cincinnati’s performance. One bright spot came from kicker Evan McPherson, who drilled two field goals, including a 51-yarder.

For Philadelphia, the win was about more than the score — it was proof of the team’s depth and readiness. “Whoever is in will play,” was the clear message from their sideline. McKee’s composure and command of the offense were matched by a defense that rose to the occasion. The Bengals, meanwhile, have work to do in shoring up their reserves on defense and special teams before the regular season arrives. With several weeks left until kickoff, they have time to clean up mistakes and solidify depth. As for Burrow and Chase, their early chemistry signals that Cincinnati’s first-team offense is already in sync — a dangerous prospect for opposing defenses this year.
