The Boston Red Sox used a trio of home runs and a strong pitching performance from rookie Richard Fitts to defeat the Colorado Rockies 9–3 on Monday night at Fenway Park. The win marked the Red Sox’s fourth straight victory and their seventh in the last nine games, pushing them further into playoff contention as the All-Star break approaches.

Roman Anthony launched a two-run homer in the fifth inning to break the game open, finishing off Colorado starter Austin Gomber’s rough night. Gomber (0–2) allowed five runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings, including Anthony’s blast, and struggled to find rhythm after the second inning. The Red Sox also received home runs from Romy Gonzalez and Ceddanne Rafaela. Gonzalez’s solo shot in the sixth inning was measured at 454 feet, tying Mike Trout’s June 2 homer for the longest hit at Fenway Park this season, according to Statcast. Rafaela continued his power surge with a home run in his third straight game, helping pace the Boston offense. Boston rookie Richard Fitts (1–3) earned his first major league win, tossing 5 2/3 innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs. He also struck out six batters in a poised and confident performance.

“It feels amazing to get that first win,” Fitts said postgame. “The guys gave me great support, and it was just about executing pitch by pitch.”

A key moment came in the second inning with the game tied 1–1. Abraham Toro drove a double over the head of Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia, scoring Carlos Narváez and Tyler Freeman. That two-run double gave Boston a 3–1 lead and set the tone for the remainder of the game. Though Colorado chipped away to cut the lead to 5–3 in the sixth, Boston’s offense responded quickly with RBI singles from Jarren Duran and Narváez in the seventh inning. The Red Sox tacked on more insurance in the eighth to seal the comfortable win. Boston manager Alex Cora praised his team’s balanced performance. “We’re getting big hits up and down the lineup, and the young guys are stepping up,” Cora said.

“Fitts showed he belongs, and our power really set the tone tonight.”

The Red Sox (47–39) will look to extend their winning streak Tuesday night when right-hander Brayan Bello (4–3, 3.42 ERA) faces Rockies lefty Kyle Freeland (1–9, 5.49 ERA).
