The Denver Broncos have secured a major piece of their defensive future, officially signing first-round draft pick Jahdae Barron to a four-year rookie contract. The former Texas Longhorn standout was selected 20th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft and is expected to make an immediate impact in the Broncos' secondary. Barron, 23, emerged as one of the top defensive backs in college football last season, tallying five interceptions and leading Texas to a Big 12 Championship. Known for his high football IQ, quick reaction time, and aggressive coverage style, Barron brings a competitive edge to a Broncos defense looking to return to elite form. The deal is worth an estimated $18.1 million and includes a standard fifth-year option. With training camp just days away, Denver’s coaching staff is eager to get Barron on the field and evaluate how he fits into their evolving defensive schemes.

“Jahdae is a playmaker,” said head coach Sean Payton. “His instincts and versatility are exactly what we need. We’re thrilled to have him locked in and ready for camp.”

The Broncos still face one major contract hurdle, as second-round pick RJ Harvey remains unsigned. Across the league, nearly 30 second-round picks are in similar situations, often due to disputes over guaranteed money or bonus structures. Meanwhile, only one first-rounder remains unsigned: Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart, the 17th overall pick. His negotiations have reportedly stalled over potential contract void clauses related to off-field conduct. For now, Denver fans can celebrate Barron’s arrival. With elite college credentials and a chip on his shoulder, he’s expected to compete for a starting role from Day One. If his college performance is any indication, the Broncos may have landed a future cornerstone for their defense.
