The Colorado Rockies’ struggles continued on Friday night with a 6-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park. The defeat marked Colorado’s third consecutive loss and their seventeenth loss in the month of September, further cementing what has become one of the worst seasons in National League history. With a record of 43-116, the Rockies are on pace to finish among the bottom teams of the modern era. Seattle, meanwhile, continued its dominant form, having already clinched the American League West title. The win extended the Mariners’ overall winning streak to seven games and their home winning streak to eleven, tying a franchise record. The offensive star of the night was third baseman Eugenio Suárez, who hit his 49th home run of the season—a two-run shot in the second inning off Rockies starter Bradley Blalock. The home run tied Suárez’s career high, originally set in 2019. He later added an RBI single in the fifth inning, bringing his season total to a career-best 117 runs batted in.
Blalock (2-6) lasted only 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and two walks. The Mariners capitalized on his mistakes with timely hitting from multiple players. Outfielder Randy Arozarena delivered a two-run single with two outs in the fourth, and Dominic Canzone grounded into a run-scoring forceout in the same inning. Offensively, the Rockies continued to struggle. Despite a solid performance from Ryan Ritter, who had three hits in the game, Colorado could only manage two runs. Their inability to generate offense has been a recurring issue throughout the 2025 season. As of this game, the Rockies have now allowed 1,007 runs, becoming the first MLB team to surpass the 1,000-run mark since the 1999 Colorado Rockies. Their run differential stands at -416, which is on pace to break the post-1900 MLB record for worst in a single season.
As the season draws to a close, the Rockies find themselves focused less on results and more on future rebuilding efforts. The team will look to salvage something from their remaining games as they travel to San Francisco to face the Giants in their next series. Meanwhile, the Mariners will continue their homestand with a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, eyeing a strong finish to their postseason push.
