The Colorado Rockies snapped their five-game home losing streak in dramatic fashion Thursday afternoon at Coors Field, narrowly defeating the Houston Astros 7–6. The win allowed Colorado to avoid what would have been their 13th series sweep of the 2025 season.

Thairo Estrada led the offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI—his highest total since joining the Rockies. Estrada, who has tallied three hits in back-to-back games and four times in his last six appearances, is currently slashing an impressive .462/.444/.577 over that span. His production proved vital as the Rockies improved to 11–17 in series finales and 12–28 in day games. Tyler Freeman extended his on-base streak to 18 games, the longest by a Rockie this season. He also recorded his 12th stolen base of the year, setting a personal single-season best. Freeman has reached base safely in his last 27 starts, the longest such streak by a Rockies player since Jurickson Profar’s 37-game stretch in 2023. On the mound, left-hander Kyle Freeland earned a no-decision despite logging his eighth quality start of the season. Over six innings, he allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out two. Freeland has now posted a 4.76 ERA across his last five starts dating back to May 30. The bullpen held strong, with reliever Juan Mejia collecting his first win of the year and Seth Halvorsen securing his seventh save. Halvorsen also made franchise history by throwing a 103.3 MPH fastball in the ninth inning, the fastest pitch ever recorded by a Rockies pitcher in the Statcast era.

For the Astros, the loss snapped a seven-game winning streak against Colorado and ended their hopes of a third consecutive sweep of the Rockies. Starter Brandon Walter gave up five earned runs across five innings but avoided a decision. Houston outfielder Cam Smith continued his hot streak, going 3-for-5 with a double, triple, and three RBI. Over his last 15 games, Smith is batting .417 with four home runs and 15 RBI. Despite the loss, the Astros remain among the top teams in the American League with a 52–35 record, while the Rockies improved to a modest 20–67. Though the postseason remains out of reach for Colorado, performances from rising contributors like Estrada, Freeman, and Halvorsen provide hope for the future.
