The Colorado Rockies have begun the season with the worst record in the history of the National League since 1901, following a 6-3 defeat against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night, as reported by Manny Randhawa from MLB. With a record of 4-24, the Rockies have become the first team since the 2003 Detroit Tigers to drop at least 24 out of their first 28 games, marking one of the poorest starts in recent history. Only two NL teams have lost as many as 23 games in their first 28 games: the Cincinnati Reds of 2022 and the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1952. That team known as the Reds would eventually secure 62 victories. The Pirates, on the other hand, managed to secure just 42 victories. It is important to highlight that the Rockies are on track for a total of 23 wins in 162 games, which is poorer than the performance of the 2024 Chicago White Sox, who set a new MLB record for failure with a 41-121 record. They are currently on a seven-game losing streak, having lost 15 out of their last 16 games as well. Dayn Perry covered the Rockies' terrible beginning in more detail on Monday morning.

This low number stands out for several reasons. One reason is that it is undoubtedly the poorest in MLB at this moment, and currently, MLB features a Chicago White Sox squad that is set to equal a record for 121 losses. The mention of the White Sox and their record for the highest number of losses in a season is timely as it directly relates to the current approach of the Rockies. In the previous season, the White Sox achieved a record of 41-121, which surpassed the 40-120-1 record of the 1962 New York Mets, earning them that specific shameful distinction. With a winning percentage of . 148, the Rockies are projected to finish the 2025 season with a record of 24-138. As you have likely guessed, this would shatter the new record set by the 2024 White Sox in a dramatic way. The Rockies' most recent loss featured them jumping out to a 3-0 advantage in the opening inning.

Colorado then allowed six runs in a row without scoring, as the Braves managed to get on the board at least once in three straight innings from the third to the fifth. Some of the most disheartening facts regarding Colorado's beginning? The Rockies have yet to secure back-to-back victories this season. Since April 20, they haven't secured a victory in any contest, and they've been behind in 26 out of their last 28 games.
