Lubbock, Texas — No 20 Texas Tech Lady Raiders women's basketball delivered a statement performance Wednesday night at the United Supermarkets Arena, dominating No 15 Baylor Lady Bears women's basketball 87-56 in Lubbock to secure a season sweep and a historic program milestone.
Snudda Collins, coming off the bench, led all scorers with 23 points on 9-for-15 shooting, while Bailey Maupin contributed 22 points, hitting 4-of-7 from three point range. Gemma Nunez and Sarengbe Sanogo added 10 points apiece, helping the Lady Raiders finish at 56 percent shooting (34 of 61) and maintain control from start to finish.
Baylor struggled offensively, shooting 36 percent overall (20 of 55), with Taliah Scott and Darianna Littlepage-Buggs each scoring 13 points. The Lady Bears fell to 22-6 overall and 11-4 in Big 12 play, while Texas Tech improved to 24-4 and 11-4 in the conference.
Texas Tech established early dominance, taking a 12-6 lead midway through the first quarter. Collins’ three pointer followed by a layup pushed the margin to 22-12 by the end of the period. A 10-2 run highlighted by a pair of Maupin threes at the start of the second quarter extended the lead to 32-17 with 7:54 left before halftime. Texas Tech entered the locker room up 48-28, controlling both tempo and perimeter shooting.
After a slow start to the third quarter, missing five consecutive shots, the Lady Raiders regained momentum, converting 5 of 6 in the period to lead 67-44 heading into the final frame. The defensive intensity limited Baylor’s scoring opportunities and disrupted their half court sets, emphasizing Texas Tech’s strategic execution on both ends.
The win carries historical significance. Texas Tech achieved its first season sweep over Baylor since 2003-04, ending the Bears’ 31-game winning streak against the Lady Raiders dating back to 2011. This was Tech’s first home victory over Baylor since Jan. 15, 2006, and only the second time in nearly two decades the program has defeated Baylor twice in one season. Baylor maintains a series lead of 56-49, but Texas Tech’s recent surge reshapes the competitive balance in the Big 12.
Looking ahead, Texas Tech travels to face Colorado on Saturday, aiming to sustain momentum and reinforce its position in the conference standings. Baylor hosts Arizona the same day, seeking to rebound from back-to-back defeats and preserve its NCAA tournament outlook.
With the Big 12 race tightening, Texas Tech’s combination of bench scoring depth, efficient perimeter shooting, and historical breakthroughs positions the Lady Raiders as a team to watch for the remainder of the season.
This performance underscores program growth, roster development, and the strategic impact of key contributors like Collins and Maupin in high stakes conference matchups.
