PITTSBURGH — The Houston Texans continued their dominant postseason run Monday night, overwhelming the Pittsburgh Steelers 30–6 to secure the first road playoff victory in franchise history. Powered by a relentless defensive performance, Houston stifled veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and extended its winning streak to ten games. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins delivered the defining moment early in the fourth quarter when he scooped up a Rodgers fumble and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown, breaking open a previously close contest. Rankins emphasized that the team’s ambitions go beyond a single win, stating the Texans are focused on competing for a championship. Houston’s defense limited Pittsburgh to just 175 total yards and held the Steelers scoreless in the second half. Head coach DeMeco Ryans called it the best defensive outing in the organization’s 24-year history. Cornerback Calen Bullock capped the night with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown, potentially the final play of Rodgers’ storied career. Offensively, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud overcame three turnovers by responding with timely plays, including a four-yard touchdown pass to Christian Kirk to finish a 92-yard drive. Kirk totaled eight receptions for 144 yards, while running back Woody Marks rushed for 112 yards and sealed the game with a 13-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Pittsburgh managed only two field goals in the first half, marking its seventh consecutive playoff loss under head coach Mike Tomlin. Rodgers finished with 146 passing yards and acknowledged uncertainty about whether he will return for a 22nd NFL season.
Despite forcing turnovers and keeping the game within reach for much of the night, the Steelers were unable to capitalize offensively. Wide receiver DK Metcalf, returning from suspension, caught two passes for 42 yards but dropped a key third-down pass that stalled early momentum. Houston now advances to face the New England Patriots in the divisional round, aiming to reach the AFC Championship Game for the first time. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh enters another offseason searching for answers as its playoff drought continues to deepen.
