The Kansas City Chiefs have placed wide receiver Rashee Rice on injured reserve as of Thursday, which will keep him out for a minimum of the next four games. Rice suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s game when quarterback Patrick Mahomes inadvertently collided with his knee while both were pursuing a fumble from the Los Angeles Chargers that occurred after an interception.
Head Coach Andy Reid indicated on Thursday that the team would not have further information regarding the severity of the injury until the following week. He mentioned that Rice is currently waiting for the swelling in his knee to subside before undergoing additional evaluations. "We are genuinely hopeful for a positive outcome, but we will have to wait and see, allowing the medical professionals to assess the situation," Reid stated.
"Rashee has had an outstanding season. Unfortunately, injuries are a part of this league, and we must continue moving forward. We always anticipate that the next players will step up, and this situation is no exception. While there is no one quite like Rashee, we have other talented individuals who can perform well, so we will manage," he added. Rice currently leads the Chiefs with 24 receptions and 288 receiving yards over four games this season, and he is tied for the team lead with two touchdown receptions.
