Tillman Delivers Late Winner as LAFC Edges Seattle Before World Cup Break

LOS ANGELES — A late strike from Timothy Tillman lifted LAFC to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday night at BMO Stadium, sending the Black & Gold into the FIFA World Cup break on a winning note. After struggling to find a breakthrough for much of the evening, LAFC finally capitalized in the 86th minute when Tillman arrived at the back post to meet a pinpoint cross from Tyler Boyd. The midfielder's finish proved to be the difference as LAFC snapped a three-match MLS losing streak and ended a five-game winless run across all competitions. The victory moves LAFC to 24 points on the season with a 7-5-3 record, placing the club fifth in the Western Conference heading into the league's seven-week pause for the World Cup. LAFC controlled large stretches of the match, outshooting Seattle 18-11 overall and holding a commanding 12-4 edge in first-half attempts. Despite creating several opportunities, the hosts were repeatedly denied until Tillman's decisive moment late in regulation. Goalkeeper Thomas Hasal played a crucial role in preserving the lead, making five saves to record his first MLS shutout of the season. Starting in place of the injured Hugo Lloris for a second consecutive match, Hasal anchored a defensive performance that delivered LAFC's ninth league clean sheet of 2026. The win continues LAFC's dominance over Seattle at home. The club improved to 9-0-1 against the Sounders in regular-season matches at BMO Stadium, outscoring its Pacific Northwest rival 22-5 during that span.

Tillman's goal carried additional significance as he celebrated his 150th appearance for LAFC across all competitions. The midfielder had not scored in an MLS match since April 2024, making Sunday's winner a memorable milestone moment. Boyd also made an immediate impact after entering the match in the 79th minute. Just seven minutes later, he delivered the assist on Tillman's goal, registering his first helper for LAFC. Veteran midfielder Mark Delgado reached another career milestone by making his 357th regular-season MLS appearance, moving into a tie for 25th place on the league's all-time appearances list. Defender Ryan Hollingshead added another landmark of his own, making the 249th start of his MLS career. With the World Cup break now underway, LAFC will return to league action on July 17 when it travels to face the rival LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park. The Black & Gold will then host Real Salt Lake on July 22 in their first home match following the break.
