UCF Holds Off Texas Tech in High-Scoring Thriller to Extend Winning Streak

ORLANDO, Fla. — In a tightly contested matchup that saw multiple lead changes and clutch scoring, UCF edged Texas Tech 83-79 on Saturday night, extending their recent winning streak and demonstrating depth across their roster.

Christian Anderson and Themus Fulks led the Knights offensively, combining for 34 points, while Riley Kugel contributed 16 points and key defensive plays that shifted momentum in the second half. JT Toppin and LeJuan Watts paced the Red Raiders with 25 and 18 points, respectively, but late turnovers and missed perimeter shots prevented Texas Tech from completing a comeback.

UCF jumped out early with a balanced attack, as Jordan Burks connected on a 26-foot three pointer less than a minute into the game. Texas Tech responded with JT Toppin’s driving layups and John Bol’s efficient scoring inside, keeping the game tied at multiple points in the first half. By halftime, UCF had a narrow 44-40 advantage, highlighted by Carmelo Pacheco’s 29-foot three point jumper and multiple offensive rebounds from Jamichael Stillwell.

The second half saw UCF build a slim lead through aggressive ball movement and perimeter shooting. Christian Anderson hit multiple three pointers, while Themus Fulks drove to the basket effectively. Texas Tech remained within striking distance, with JT Toppin connecting on a critical 27-foot three point shot and Donovan Atwell adding a clutch 30-foot three pointer in the final two minutes.

Key defensive stops and rebounding proved decisive. Riley Kugel’s steals and blocks disrupted Texas Tech’s rhythm in the closing minutes, while UCF converted free throws under pressure, including two late makes by Jamichael Stillwell to seal the four-point victory.

The win keeps UCF on track for a strong conference position and highlights the versatility of a roster capable of scoring both inside and beyond the arc. For Texas Tech, the loss underscores ongoing challenges in closing out games and capitalizing on late-game possessions despite strong individual performances from Toppin and Watts.

Up next, UCF will host Houston on Monday, looking to maintain momentum in conference play, while Texas Tech will travel to face Baylor, seeking to rebound and tighten rotation decisions in high-pressure situations.
