MJ Collins Jr. scored 24 points to lead Utah State as the Aggies defeated Memphis 99-75 on Saturday in a commanding Mountain West matchup.
Utah State (18-7, 9-5 Mountain West) jumped ahead early and never looked back, building a 14-point halftime lead before extending it with a 20-7 run in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Drake Allen contributed 20 points, while Adlan Elamin added 20 points of his own, combining for a dynamic inside outside attack that Memphis struggled to contain.
Memphis (15-9, 7-7 Mountain West) had 21 points from Curtis Givens III, including 10 of 10 from the free throw line, but the Tigers were unable to keep pace with the Aggies’ efficient shooting and defensive pressure. The Tigers shot 37 percent from the field and 22 percent from three point range, while Utah State converted 53 percent of their shots, including 36 percent from beyond the arc.
Utah State’s balanced offense featured contributions from multiple starters and bench players, totaling 22 assists on 99 points. Memphis committed 18 turnovers, allowing the Aggies to score 27 points off turnovers. Utah State also dominated the glass, securing 35 rebounds to Memphis’ 39, including 22 defensive rebounds that limited second chance opportunities.
This victory moves Utah State into a tie for second place in the Mountain West and marks their fourth win in the last five games, strengthening their case for a postseason tournament bid. Memphis falls to 7-7 in conference play and will look to regroup as they head into a tough stretch of road games.
Up next, Utah State hosts San Diego State on Tuesday, while Memphis travels to Nevada the same evening. Both teams aim to use this contest as a benchmark for the remaining Mountain West schedule.
