Wings Edge Fever in Thrilling Season Opener Behind Ogunbowale, Bueckers.

INDIANAPOLIS — The highly anticipated WNBA season opener delivered on the hype Saturday as the Dallas Wings held off the Indiana Fever for a dramatic 107-104 victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Arike Ogunbowale scored 22 points and Paige Bueckers added 20 in her regular-season debut as Dallas spoiled Indiana’s home opener despite a late push led by Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. Clark had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds but missed a deep 3-pointer with about seven seconds left. Mitchell also came up empty on a final desperation attempt at the buzzer after Bueckers missed two free throws that briefly opened the door for Indiana. The Wings leaned on an efficient offensive performance throughout the afternoon, shooting 59% from the field and knocking down 52% of their attempts from beyond the arc. Bueckers was highly efficient in her debut, finishing 8-of-10 from the floor, while veteran guard Odyssey Sims matched her with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Jessica Shepard nearly posted a triple-double in her first game with Dallas, recording 13 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. No. 1 overall pick Azzi Fudd also made her WNBA debut and scored her first professional points on a 3-pointer in the first half, finishing with three points in 18 minutes.

Indiana was paced by Mitchell’s 30-point outing, while Aliyah Boston added 23 points in the paint. Clark finished with 20 points, seven assists, and five rebounds, though she also committed five turnovers. The game’s turning point came midway through the fourth quarter when rookie Aziaha James converted a four-point play after being fouled on a made 3-pointer, giving Dallas an 84-82 lead with just over nine minutes remaining. The Wings never surrendered the advantage after that sequence. Despite shooting 52% overall, the Fever struggled from long range, connecting on just 29% of their 3-point attempts. Dallas will continue its season Tuesday at home against the Atlanta Dream, while Indiana travels to Los Angeles to face the Sparks on Wednesday.
