Angel Reese, the Chicago Sky’s rising star and cultural icon, continues to turn heads both on the hardwood and in the world of fashion and media. In the Sky’s first WNBA preseason game, Reese delivered a dominant double-double performance, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in just 17 minutes of play. The game took place at LSU’s Pete Maravich Assembly Center, the very court where Reese helped lead the Tigers to a national championship in 2023. The preseason matchup was against the Brazil national team, which the Sky won convincingly, 89–62. Joining Reese on the court was her former LSU teammate Hailey Van Lith, who also made a strong impression with seven points, five assists, and three rebounds in only 13 minutes of action. For Reese, the game was a triumphant return to her college roots and a warm-up for another major appearance — the Met Gala. Just moments after the final buzzer, she took to Instagram to begin her countdown to fashion’s biggest night, showcasing her pregame look and expressing excitement about returning to the red carpet. Her 2024 Met Gala debut had already proven that she could balance a demanding basketball schedule with major off-court commitments.
In fact, after attending the prestigious event last year, she played a preseason game against the New York Liberty the next day, scoring 13 points and pulling down five rebounds.
Reese's ability to excel in multiple arenas is becoming a hallmark of her career. Her rookie season included not just All-Star honors and a league-leading average of 13.1 rebounds per game, but also the launch of her podcast Unapologetically Angel, major endorsements with McDonald's and Reese's Puffs, and appearances on several magazine covers. In 2025, her influence off the court is set to deepen. Reese is part of the Met Gala’s host committee for the Costume Institute Benefit, alongside fellow athletes Simone Biles and Sha’Carri Richardson. The theme for this year’s event, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Culture,” positions Reese and her peers as curators and celebrants of Black excellence in both fashion and identity.
Notable names including Spike Lee, Regina King, and Usher are also on the committee, while LeBron James joins as an honorary chair, alongside co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour. Angel Reese’s journey continues to exemplify the modern athlete: dominant, dynamic, and unapologetically present in both sports and culture.
