TUCSON, Ariz. — Brayden Burries poured in 22 points and Koa Peat added 17 as top-ranked Arizona cruised to an 88–53 victory over West Virginia on Saturday, extending its undefeated start to the season. The Wildcats improved to 20–0 overall and 7–0 in Big 12 play, remaining the unanimous No. 1 team in the AP Top 25. Arizona followed up a dominant win over Cincinnati earlier in the week with another decisive performance, marking the program’s strongest start since the 2013–14 season. Arizona seized control early, building a double-digit lead within the opening minutes and heading into halftime ahead 43–23. The Wildcats’ defense stifled West Virginia throughout the first half, limiting the Mountaineers to just 29 percent shooting and forcing multiple turnovers. Burries set the tone with two early three-pointers and finished the first half with 13 points. Arizona continued its momentum after the break, opening the second half with a 10–4 run that pushed the lead past 25 and effectively put the game out of reach.
Chance Moore led West Virginia with 12 points, but the Mountaineers struggled to generate consistent offense against Arizona’s pressure. West Virginia fell to 13–7 overall and 4–3 in conference play. Arizona is one of only three undefeated teams remaining this season, joining Nebraska and Miami (Ohio). The Wildcats will face a major test next when they travel to play No. 13 BYU.
