The Atlanta Hawks delivered a decisive 131 to 113 road win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night as Nickeil Alexander Walker scored 23 points to extend Atlanta’s winning streak to five games and push the club above the .500 mark for the first time since December.
The result marks a notable shift in momentum for Atlanta in the National Basketball Association Eastern Conference standings. After beginning the season 15 to 12 following a Dec. 14 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, the Hawks dropped seven consecutive games and had not held a winning record since that stretch. Wednesday’s victory improves Atlanta to 32 to 31 and strengthens its positioning in the Eastern Conference play in race.
Atlanta’s comeback performance unfolded after Milwaukee built an early 16 point advantage. The Hawks responded with balanced scoring and defensive pressure, ultimately outscoring the Bucks 65 to 42 in the second half.
Onyeka Okongwu recorded 21 points while Jalen Johnson contributed 20 points and nine assists, continuing his expanded offensive role within Atlanta’s rotation. Veteran guard CJ McCollum added 18 points and Dyson Danielsfinished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in one of the team’s most complete performances during its current streak.
Atlanta’s offensive surge followed a sharp shift in the third quarter. After Milwaukee carried a 71 to 66 lead into halftime in a game where both teams shot above 60 percent in the opening half, the Bucks struggled to generate offense. Milwaukee scored only two points in the first five minutes and 56 seconds of the third quarter while Atlanta opened the half with a 10 to 0 run to take control.
Milwaukee’s offensive challenges continued throughout the second half. The Bucks have now lost four consecutive games by a combined margin of 97 points, a stretch that has pushed the team to 26 to 35 on the season and five games behind both Atlanta and the Charlotte Hornets in the Eastern Conference standings.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee with 24 points in his second game since returning from a right calf strain that sidelined him for five weeks. The two time league Most Valuable Player showed signs of regained rhythm but received a technical foul in the fourth quarter after throwing the ball against the stanchion following a basket by Daniels that extended Atlanta’s lead to 121 to 103 with 4 minutes 20 seconds remaining.
Ryan Rollins contributed 13 points and 12 assists for Milwaukee while Kyle Kuzma scored 16 points two days after not playing in a 108 to 81 loss against the Boston Celtics.
Both teams were also managing roster availability. Atlanta played without Jonathan Kuminga due to inflammation in his left knee. Milwaukee was missing Kevin Porter Jr because of swelling in his right knee.
The latest update in the Eastern Conference race highlights Atlanta’s improving form under head coach Quin Snyder. The Hawks have emphasized pace, ball movement, and defensive rebounding during their five game winning streak, which has helped stabilize a roster that experienced significant inconsistency earlier in the season.
For Milwaukee, the next steps center on regaining offensive efficiency and stabilizing the rotation around Antetokounmpo as the team attempts to remain competitive in the play in race. The current timeline of losses has placed increased pressure on the roster as the regular season moves into its final stretch.
Atlanta returns home to host the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. Milwaukee will remain at home to face the Utah Jazzthe same night.
