Denver Colorado – The Denver Broncos earned a 17-14 overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night after Ja’Quan McMillian intercepted Sam Darnold and Wil Lutz converted a 53-yard field goal to secure the win. Denver improved to 4-2 despite continued offensive struggles and several injuries on defense. Seattle dropped to 3-3 after suffering its second loss in five days. The decisive play came during Seattle’s opening possession of overtime. McMillian intercepted Darnold’s pass intended for Rashid Shaheed at the Denver 43-yard line. The turnover gave the Broncos an opportunity to end the game, and Lutz delivered with a 53-yard field goal. Denver’s offense struggled to sustain drives throughout the contest. Quarterback Bo Nix completed 17 of 27 passes for 107 yards, while running back J.K. Dobbins led the team in rushing with 41 yards. The Broncos recorded only 168 total yards and three first downs, compared with Seattle’s 353 total yards. Nix acknowledged the offense’s difficulty generating explosive plays and said the team was still searching for solutions. Despite those limitations, Denver’s defense once again played a major role in securing the victory. The Broncos recorded five sacks and 17 quarterback hits against Darnold. The Seattle quarterback completed 27 of 51 passes for 278 yards but threw two interceptions and failed to record a touchdown. Denver cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine intercepted Darnold late in regulation with 1:25 remaining. However, the Broncos failed to capitalize on the turnover, using only 15 seconds before punting the ball back to Seattle.

The Seahawks responded with a late scoring drive. Running back George Holani scored on a one-yard touchdown run to bring Seattle within three points. Darnold then connected with Shaheed on a two-point conversion, making the score 14-11 with 5:41 remaining.

Seattle tied the game with three seconds left in regulation when Jason Myers kicked a 34-yard field goal. The drive was helped by Shaheed’s 31-yard punt return, which gave the Seahawks favorable field position.

Denver established its halftime lead through two rushing touchdowns. Dobbins scored from four yards out, and R.J. Harvey added a one-yard touchdown on a direct snap. Those scores gave the Broncos a 14-3 advantage at halftime. Seattle had an opportunity to add points before the break, but Denver linebacker Nik Bonitto forced a fumble from Shaheed. Linebacker Justin Strnad recovered the ball at the Broncos’ 34-yard line, ending the drive.

The Seahawks struggled to protect Darnold throughout the game. Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald acknowledged the pressure on his quarterback, while Darnold credited Denver’s defensive unit and defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. Broncos head coach Sean Payton praised his defense but recognized that the team still had significant areas to improve. Denver’s 4-2 record reflects its ability to win close games, even as the offense continues to search for consistency. The victory improved Denver’s overtime record to 33-23-2. Seattle fell to 19-30-1 in overtime games. Seattle tight end Elijah Arroyo left the game late in the first half with an apparent right shoulder injury. Denver played without cornerback Patrick Surtain II and safety Talanoa Hufanga, who were sidelined with ankle injuries. Running back Tyler Badie also sustained a thumb injury during the second quarter.

The Seahawks will host the Kansas City Chiefs on October 25, while the Broncos will welcome the Arizona Cardinals on the same date. Denver will aim to maintain its winning record while improving its offensive production, and Seattle will look to rebound from consecutive defeats.
