CHICAGO — Caleb Williams delivered another strong performance Thursday night, throwing for 308 yards and two touchdowns as the Chicago Bears defeated the New England Patriots 30-24 at Soldier Field. The victory improved Chicago's record to 5-2, while New England dropped to 4-3 after having its three-game winning streak snapped. Williams completed 22 of 33 passes in his second game since returning from a right hamstring injury. His performance marked his second consecutive game with more than 300 passing yards, making him the first Bears quarterback to accomplish that feat since Mitch Trubisky in 2018.

Chicago's offense received a significant boost from rookie wide receiver Luther Burden, who finished with four receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Colston Loveland also contributed with a 12-yard touchdown reception. The Bears built a 20-7 advantage late in the second quarter when Williams connected with Burden on a 24-yard screen pass. Chicago's blockers created enough space for Burden to reach the end zone with just 14 seconds remaining before halftime. New England refused to let the game get out of reach.

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye completed 24 of 31 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns while adding a 7-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. However, a costly interception in the end zone prevented New England from taking advantage of a scoring opportunity. Bears linebacker D'Marco Jackson intercepted Maye's pass intended for rookie tight end Eli Raridon late in the first half, giving Chicago an important defensive stop.

Despite the turnover, Maye continued to challenge the Bears' defense. He connected with running back Rhamondre Stevenson for a 48-yard touchdown on the final play of the first half, cutting into Chicago's lead. Stevenson finished with five receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown, while Raridon added a 30-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter.

With the Patriots remaining within striking distance late in the fourth quarter, veteran kicker Cairo Santos delivered one of the game's biggest plays.

After missing a 53-yard field goal earlier in the quarter, Santos converted a 58-yard attempt with 1:34 remaining. The kick established a new personal best and tied the Bears' franchise record for longest field goal. New England responded with a late drive that resulted in Andy Borregales making a 47-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining. However, Chicago recovered the ensuing onside kick to secure the six-point victory. The matchup also represented another chapter in the developing rivalry between Williams and Maye, two quarterbacks selected near the top of the 2024 NFL Draft. Williams, the first overall selection, earned his first victory against Maye after New England defeated Chicago 19-3 during their rookie seasons. The evening carried additional significance for the Bears organization as Chicago honored former player and legendary head coach Mike Ditka, who died Oct. 9. Before kickoff, the team held a moment of silence, while fans throughout Soldier Field wore No. 89 jerseys and other tributes celebrating Ditka's legacy. Chicago also faced injury concerns during the contest. Cornerback Malik Muhammad exited with a toe injury, while tight end Cole Kmet suffered a right knee injury late in the fourth quarter.

For New England, defensive tackle Christian Barmore left late in the game, while safety Kevin Byard returned after receiving medical attention during the first half. The Bears will look to build on their momentum when they travel to Seattle for a Monday night matchup against the Seahawks on Nov. 2. Meanwhile, the Patriots will attempt to rebound when they visit the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 1.
