INDIANAPOLIS — Sonia Citron delivered a breakout performance with 30 points as the Washington Mystics outlasted the Indiana Fever 104-102 in overtime Friday night, surviving a late surge led by Caitlin Clark’s clutch shooting. Clark again showed her ability to swing a game in the biggest moments, knocking down a deep 3-pointer from the left wing with just 1.7 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score at 89 and force overtime. She finished with 32 points, including seven made 3s, and sparked Indiana’s comeback after the Fever trailed by double digits in the second half. Washington, however, had steadier execution in the extra period. Citron added five points in overtime and helped close out the win alongside Kiki Iriafen, who dominated inside with 25 points and 13 rebounds. The duo combined for 44 points after halftime and shot efficiently throughout the game, with the Mystics finishing at 56% from the field. The Fever had multiple chances late to steal the game. Kelsey Mitchell scored 24 points but missed two critical free throws in the final minute of overtime, then narrowly missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer. Monique Billings added 10 points, while Aliyah Boston was limited to nine before exiting in the third quarter with a lower-leg injury and not returning. Indiana leaned heavily on perimeter shooting, connecting on 17 threes in 42 attempts, including a blistering start in the first quarter when they hit six of seven from deep to take an early lead. But Washington controlled the interior, outscoring Indiana 48-28 in the paint and gradually wearing down the Fever defense. The Mystics closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run and took momentum into halftime after outscoring Indiana 20-9 in the second quarter for a 41-37 lead. The Fever flipped the game briefly in the fourth behind Clark’s scoring burst, opening the period with a 12-2 run fueled by her long-range shooting.
Despite that push, Washington’s balance in overtime proved decisive, allowing them to escape with a narrow road victory and improve to 2-1, while Indiana fell to 1-2.
