LOS ANGELES — Caitlin Clark delivered 24 points and nine assists, and Kelsey Mitchell added 23 points as the Indiana Fever held off a late push to defeat the Los Angeles Sparks 87–78 on Wednesday night. Clark’s lone 3-pointer on the night came at a pivotal moment, extending Indiana’s lead to 78–63 with 4:51 remaining in the fourth quarter. Although Los Angeles responded with an 11–3 run, cutting the deficit to 83–76 on a Kelsey Plum drive with 1:23 left, the Sparks could not complete the comeback. On the ensuing sequence, Plum missed an open corner three after an Indiana turnover. Clark then assisted Mitchell on an inbound play for a layup that pushed the Fever’s lead back to 85–76 with 33.2 seconds remaining, effectively sealing the win. Mitchell set the tone early, scoring 17 points in the first half while shooting 7-of-9 from the field. Clark added 11 points before halftime as Indiana built a 48–34 advantage, fueled by 56% shooting as a team. Sophie Cunningham contributed 12 points, while Monique Billings posted nine points and eight rebounds in her regular-season debut for Indiana. Aliyah Boston finished with four points and seven rebounds before fouling out with 3:32 remaining. Myisha Hines-Allen also reached a milestone, surpassing 500 career assists. For Los Angeles (0–2), Plum led all scorers with 25 points, while Dearica Hamby added 16. Cameron Brink finished with 11 points and three blocks, and both Nneka Ogwumike and Rae Burrell chipped in 10. Ariel Atkins left the game early with a head injury after playing just 16 minutes. Indiana (1–1) returns home to face Washington on Friday, while the Sparks travel to Toronto for back-to-back games against the Tempo beginning the same night.
