Cowboys come up short in San Diego — SDSU takes the win 72-63.

In a tightly contested matchup, the MIN basketball team fell short against the San Diego State Aztecs, 72–63, despite strong individual efforts from several players. The game showcased both teams’ strengths and weaknesses, particularly in shooting efficiency and rebounding. For MIN, Khaden Bennett led the scoring with 14 points, shooting 3-of-11 from the field and 3-of-9 from beyond the arc. He also contributed three steals and three blocks over 34 minutes of play. Adam Harakow added 11 points and five rebounds, but MIN struggled from three-point range, making only 9-of-32 attempts (28%). Gavin Gores and Leland Walker provided key support, scoring 6 and 7 points, respectively, but turnovers and poor shooting percentages prevented MIN from gaining momentum. Overall, the team shot 32% from the field and 77% from the free-throw line. The Aztecs were led by Reese Dixon-Waters, who exploded for 23 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-5 from three, and made 9-of-12 free throws. Miles Byrd contributed a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds, adding three assists and two steals. Miles Heide and Jeremiah Oden each added seven points, helping San Diego State maintain consistent offensive pressure. The Aztecs shot 45% from the field and 64% from the free-throw line, though they struggled from three-point range, converting only 3-of-18 attempts.

Bench contributions played a role on both sides. MIN received 11 points from their bench, led by Damarion Dennis (14 points, 5 rebounds), while San Diego State’s reserves combined for 10 points and contributed on both ends of the floor. Despite MIN’s effort, San Diego State’s superior shooting and rebounding allowed them to control the game and secure the win.

The matchup highlighted MIN’s need to improve perimeter shooting and ball control, as the team committed 14 turnovers compared to the Aztecs’ 10. With this loss, MIN faces a critical need to regroup before their next outing, focusing on converting open shots and maintaining defensive intensity throughout the game.
