A 90-minute thunderstorm delay set an unusual tone at Shell Energy Stadium, but the atmosphere remained charged as Houston Dash hosted Denver Summit FC in a match filled with historic moments, emotional returns, and a dominant away performance. Before kickoff, Houston honored goalkeeper Jane Campbell, who became the first goalkeeper in NWSL history to reach 200 appearances with a single club. Despite the pre-match celebration, much of the attention soon shifted to Denver’s lineup, which featured several familiar faces returning to Houston. Janine Sonis, Abby Smith, Yazmeen Ryan, and Delanie Sheehan all faced their former club, while rookie Natalie Means earned her first professional start.
Denver struck first in the 15th minute when Janine Sonis finished a play assisted by Yazmeen Ryan, giving the visitors an early lead. The momentum continued in the 34th minute as Natasha Flint scored her fourth goal of the season, extending Denver’s advantage to 2–0. Houston responded just before halftime when Maggie Graham converted a penalty kick in stoppage time, cutting the deficit to 2–1. In the second half, Denver quickly regained control. Delanie Sheehan scored in the 49th minute off a precise pass from Ayo Oke, restoring a two-goal cushion. The match was effectively sealed in the 72nd minute when Sonis scored again to complete her brace, finishing another well-constructed attacking sequence involving Yazmeen Ryan. With the result secured, Denver rotated their lineup, while Houston attempted to generate late pressure through substitutions. However, Denver maintained defensive stability through stoppage time and closed out a convincing 4–1 victory.
