Detroit Red Wings Dominate Winnipeg Jets 5-1 as J.T. Compher Scores Twice

Winnipeg, Manitoba — J.T. Compher scored twice and John Gibson stopped 26 shots to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, marking Detroit’s fourth straight game with points and solidifying Gibson’s eighth consecutive win streak.

Lucas Raymond and Marco Kasper each contributed a goal and an assist, while Alex DeBrincat added a goal as the Red Wings surged with four third-period scores to secure the decisive victory. Detroit swept the season series against Winnipeg, having also won 2-1 at home on December 31.

Cole Koepke opened the scoring for Winnipeg at 10:08 of the second period, ending a 235-minute, 48-second 5-on-5 scoring drought dating to January 17 against Toronto. Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves but suffered his fourth consecutive loss, as the Jets have now dropped four of their last five games.

Detroit responded late in the second period when Compher batted home a loose puck with 4:10 remaining, assisted by former Jet Andrew Copp. Raymond extended his point streak to five games with his 18th goal of the season, which was confirmed after video review for a high stick.

The Red Wings’ offensive depth, combined with Gibson’s consistent goaltending, highlights the team’s improved performance and bodes well for their playoff outlook. Detroit hosts the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, while the Jets travel to face the New Jersey Devils the same night.

This victory reinforces Detroit’s position as a rising force in the Eastern Conference, demonstrating both scoring depth and elite goaltending that could define the Red Wings’ push into the postseason.
