EDMONTON, Alberta — Quinn Hughes recorded a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to eight games, setting a new franchise record for Minnesota Wild defensemen in a 7-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.
Joel Eriksson Ek, Mats Zuccarello, and Brock Faber each contributed a goal and an assist as Minnesota captured its third consecutive victory and earned points in five straight games. Kirill Kaprizov, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Tyler Pitlick added goals, while goaltender Jesper Wallstedt stopped 39 shots to secure the win. The Wild have now swept the three-game season series against Edmonton.
Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Jack Roslovic scored for the Oilers, who saw their three-game win streak come to an end. Goaltender Tristan Jarry allowed five goals on 20 shots before being replaced midway through the second period by Connor Ingram, who made seven saves in relief.
Penalty killing has been a persistent issue for Edmonton, as the Oilers surrendered two power-play goals in this game and six goals on 14 penalties over the last four contests. After a 2-2 tie in the first period, Minnesota took control early in the second with three consecutive goals. Ryan Hartman’s faceoff win set up Zuccarello’s shot over Jarry’s glove 35 seconds into the period, giving the Wild a lead they never relinquished.
Hughes’ performance highlights Minnesota’s growing depth on defense, while the Oilers must address defensive breakdowns and special teams performance before hosting Toronto on Tuesday. Minnesota will continue its three-game road trip against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night.
